Engineering Placement

Current degree requirements:

  • Studying for an engineering degree ( ideally mechanical ) or related business degree.
  • 2 yrs completed – placement between 2nd & 3rd study years.
  • Academic grades on track for a first or high 2:1 on their chosen studies

You will be part of the Volvo Trucks operations department, based in Warwick. Volvo Trucks is a world-leading truck manufacturer, committed to drive progress and shape the future landscape of sustainable transports. We provide total transport solutions in the medium to heavy-duty segment and offer support to customers in more than 130 countries. Overall , the successful applicant will be required to support dealers and New Sales teams on truck product knowledge and sales system developments to support the roll out of electric offers.

Project work:

  • To analyse the Volvo Sales support tool (VSS) – developing the process and documenting the way of working – for reference and sales training.
  • Review the interaction of the Volvo sales tools - Weight Information System (WIS), Performance (PERF) , Total Cost or Ownership (TCO) and Electric Route System .

You will also be expected to understand :

  • The truck product offer and legislation and how these impact on the systems used by the sales team.
  • How the truck market is made up and how the truck is adapted – into the discrete sectors: long haul, distribution and construction.

Other duties:

In addition to the core project activities, this new role will also support the wider remit of the Product team with a range of tasks to support team deliverables.

Specifically:

  • Support the Truck product support specialist on new customer truck specification documents
  • Electromobility - Support the roll out together with support to the sales teams with range calculations for customers transitioning to electric vehicles
  • Review the offer systems to review how these align with the sales teams to ensure – efficiency, competence and knowledge with customer documents.
  • Assist with the development of training materials for the bodybuilders in the transition from diesel to electric.
  • Represent & support Volvo Trucks at trade shows and customer events as and when required.
  • General assistance to other members of the team as required
  • Any other duties as assigned

Skills, knowledge, competences & experience required:

  • Team Player

  • Excellent level of written & spoken English
  • Ability to present ideas in a logical & practical manner
  • Coaching skills
  • Have an interest in the automotive industry
  • High level of computer literacy, including all standard Microsoft packages.
  • Willing to learn, develop & contribute quickly
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, along with core project, at any one time
  • Strong analytical skills
