Cyber Insights Summer Internship

At GCHQ, we work with other intelligence agencies to keep the nation safe. Together, we tackle unique, complex threats – everything from cyber-attacks and espionage, to terrorism and organised crime. Our work is unlike anything you’ll find anywhere else, and it relies on people with an interest in STEM.

We’re always looking for different people with different perspectives to join us. That’s the only way we can improve and keep the nation safe. On our summer school, you’ll have the chance to learn new techniques, helping to develop your skills - and build a career.

You’ll also have the chance to work on your own projects. With structured teaching, practical learning and supportive teams, you’ll get a better understanding of cyber security and computer network operations. You’ll also learn new techniques and technical skills, as well as getting interview guidance and advice on your softer skills. And you’ll do this alongside other students with similar interests.

To join, you’ll need to be working towards a 2:2 or Joint Honours degree in a STEM subject and be graduating between the summers of 2023 to 2026. Your passion for all things digital means you understand a programming language and have a keen interest in the Cyber world.

If you’re ready to learn more and solve different problems, we’ll teach you the rest. On successful completion of the Cyber Insights Summer School, you may be invited to apply for other opportunities to support your career, a summer placement the following year, an Industry year placement the following year or a permanent position. Together, we’ll turn your passion into a career.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you must be a British Citizen. One of your parents must be a British Citizen or must have the nationality or citizenship from our approved list of countries.

If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK.

You can apply at the age of 17 years and 6 months, if successful you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday. Discretion is vital. You should not discuss your application, other than with your partner or a close family member.

Please note, you should only launch your application from within the UK. If you are based overseas, you should wait until you visit the UK to launch an application.
