Project Management Year in Industry placement

Successful project delivery matters

If gaining work experience on some of the country’s biggest digital and infrastructure projects matters to you. You matter to us. Our Project Manager placements offer you the chance to see what big changes are around the corner for Network Rail, and your career too if things go well. Expect to be challenged, supported, and most of all, encouraged to play a part in delivering one of our many ambitious digital, strategic or infrastructure projects. This is your opportunity to develop valuable real-industry experience and contacts, and apply your theoretical knowledge to an active project.

Overview

  • Your starting salary is £17,000 Pro rata
  • The scheme lasts for one year.
  • Placement opportunities available in Milton Keynes

Who you are matters

We look for people who are self-motivated, with a strong work ethic. Your inquisitive nature means you’ll look at the way we do things in ways other people don’t. And where you identify alternative approaches, you’ll be able to get your ideas across with confidence, whether that’s during a presentation, or an informal conversation. Your strong organisation skills, cool head, and eye for detail means you’ll always have a calm and pragmatic approach to solving problems. As a team player, you’ll have a natural ability to understand how other people see and feel about things too.

What you’ll be doing matters

Ready to work with our world class Projects and Business Change Management team? You’ll play a hands-on role in delivering the next generation of safer and better performing railways. With many important projects being deployed all across the business, you could find yourself working with the likes of Engineering Assets, Safety, Environment, Security, Research and Development, Innovation or Information Management.

Wherever you’re placed, expect to gain valuable experience in:

  • Delivering projects on time, on budget and to a high quality.
  • Building relationships with stakeholders throughout the business and industry.
  • Managing risks.
  • Delivering business changes throughout different regions and routes.

What you’ll get out of it matters

We’re passionate about developing the next generation of talent that will come into our industry. That means we’ll ensure you’re surrounded by supportive colleagues, and receive coaching from senior staff.

Your benefits matter

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • 5 volunteer days to contribute to your favourite causes.
  • Access to our employee assistance program, to help you with any finance, family, health or wellbeing issues you have
  • Up to 75% discount on rail and underground season tickets
  • Discounted online shopping
  • Healthcare club membership discount
  • Childcare vouchers
  • Access to a range of pension and insurance schemes
  • Two weeks paid reserve leave for members of our Armed Forces community.

The opportunities it leads to matter

Do well on your placement, and we’ll consider you for next year’s graduate scheme intake. Many former year in industry students go on to hold senior positions within our company.

The entry requirements matter

You’ll be in your penultimate year at university, and on track to achieve at least a 2:2 in any degree.

We matter to millions. You could too.

About Network Rail

“If you’ve just finished university, we can offer you a career that’s going places.”

As part of a rail industry that millions of people rely on every day, you’ll have the rare opportunity to combine working on some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, innovating with new technology and helping to shape the future of our nation.
