Sustainability & Environment Placement - 12 Months - July 2022

We have an exciting opportunity for an Intern to join our EMEA Engineering Operations Team for a duration of 12 months starting in July 2022. The role is based in our regional Head Office in Watford.
This placement is ideally suited to an undergraduate currently working towards a degree in a sustainability, environmental or engineering related discipline. The successful candidate will possess strong communication and data analytical skills, as well as having good knowledge in the areas of environment and buildings. A clear passion for sustainability is essential.

What will I be doing?

As Sustainability and Environment Intern, you will support the Sustainability Manager and the wider Energy & Environment team with the management, implementation and control of the company’s sustainability and environment programmes – driving progress towards Hilton’s environmental goals to significantly reduce environmental footprint and carbon emissions by 2030.

Key activities cover (but are not limited to):

  • Utilise, control and evaluate the award-winning environment, social and governance management platform - LightStay, highlighting improvements and future development focuses.
  • Collate data, analyse trends, and identify areas of opportunities for resource conservation and innovative efficiency solutions across the EMEA portfolio.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the EMEA engineering and environmental performance program.
  • Develop best practices and self-help tools to assist hotel innovative utility savings and sustainability initiatives across the region.
  • Provide analysis of pilot projects and prepare ROI reports for state-of-the-art utility reduction technologies.
  • Support Regional Engineering Specialists, individual hotels and other corporate functions with requests for sustainability advice, initiatives and reports.
  • Support the Energy and Environment team as well as individual hotels with relevant environmental compliance.
  • Provide cost control support as required by stakeholders.
  • Provide cover for the Energy Intern as required.

What are we looking for?

As with any job, we do have certain criteria that you will need to meet in order to be considered for this amazing opportunity. These are detailed as follows;

  • Must be in your second year of undergraduate study at the point of application
  • Must be able to start in July 2022 and available for the full 12 months.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK. If you are a non-UK national then you will need to be studying at a UK university in order to be eligible to undertake a placement here.
  • Someone studying towards a sustainability, environmental or engineering related qualification.
  • Candidate must be computer literate with excellent IT skills – Excel is especially important and PowerBi knowledge would be beneficial.
  • Passionate about sustainability, current challenges and providing solutions in this space.
  • Ability to analyse data and take initiative to identify priorities and make recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide a simple explanation of engineering matters to non-technical colleagues, whilst being able to discuss complex issues with industry experts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills twinned with perseverance.
  • An ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of ethical behaviour and absolute discretion with sensitive information.
  • Good time management with excellent organisational and planning skills – it is important that the individual can prioritise their work and be flexible to change their activities to reflect the key business needs at that moment in time.
