Clinical Trial Assistant Student Placement 2022

This is a one-year industrial placement, for a Clinical Trial Assistant in Clinical Operations, with opportunities for candidates in both UK and Global Clinical Operations teams at Janssen. Experience is not required for this role, however a good understanding of life sciences and a desire to be directly involved in the development of new medicines is essential.

Position summary:

You will join our Pharmaceutical business in the role of a Clinical Trial Assistant and will be given a high level of exposure to many aspects of the Clinical Trials division. This is an office-based role and is an exciting and unique opportunity to be at the forefront of drug development in one of Europe’s fastest growing top ten pharmaceutical businesses.

We have positions available across two teams:

  • UK Clinical Operations
  • Global Portfolio Delivery Operations

UK Clinical Operations

Working within a study team, you will provide clinical trial operational support for clinical trials being conducted in the UK, across many different disease areas. These tasks are associated with trial start-up, execution and close out, mainly in phases Ib-IIIb of clinical trial development. Activities are assigned by the Clinical Operations Clinical Research Managers, Local Trial Managers and Clinical Research Associates (Site Managers). Throughout the course of the placement, we seek to provide extensive experience in multiple disease areas and across different aspects of conducting a clinical trial.

Global Portfolio Delivery Operations

The focus of this position is to support operational aspects of the global international team designing, planning, managing, analysing and reporting the results of clinical trials. Scope of work will include tasks associated with trial start-up, execution or close out, in all clinical phases of drug/vaccine development. The range of tasks will include activities assigned by the Global Program Leader, Global Trial Leader, Clinical Trial Manager, and/or Global Clinical Trial Administrators. It may vary to some degree depending on the therapeutic area and trial-specific requirements. There will be the opportunity to conduct your own project.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Duties include:

  • Contribute to study management team meetings (face-to-face or virtual).
  • Set up and / or manage trial-specific electronic systems (e.g. Clinical Trial Management System, data reporting tools etc) with expectations that study / data status information is available at all times
  • Ensure current versions of the required trial documents, trial-related materials and supplies are distributed within required timeframes.
  • Assist wider team with any activities which support trial management across the various phases of a trial (eg patient sample management)
  • Collect, file and archive study documents.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams and external vendors
  • Collaborate with the student cohort on fundraising and charity events.
  • Support the onboarding activities of placement student successors.
  • Become familiar with the regulatory and ethical frameworks, including the principles of International Committee of Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP).

Qualifications

Requirements of the roles:

  • Successful completion of the first two years of a degree course by Summer 2022
  • A degree in Life Sciences (e.g. Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences).
  • Good Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) skills
