Vehicle Technical Support Placement

This is a Placement Year position for a candidate currently studying an Engineering related Undergraduate degree at University, seeking a placement for their 3rd year. The role will commence in August 2022. Please ensure that you have read and understood the requirements of the role before applying.

Job Purpose:

To support the Service Quality team in providing technical and warranty support for vehicles and associated digital services to Porsche Centres and their customers through the provision of high quality technical and warranty documentation and advice.

Core Specific Responsibilities:

Assist the Technical Support and Customer Information Centres teams in supporting Porsche Centres with technical and repair queries relating to all aspects of vehicles and connected car digital services including the following:

  • Internal Combustion Engine vehicles (ICE) such as 911, 718 and Macan
  • Plug-in Hybrid vehicles (PHEV) such as certain Cayenne and Panamera variants
  • Full battery electric vehicles (BEV) such as the new Taycan
  • Porsche Connect online services including over-the-air updates, links to apps and in-car services and integrations with mobile devices

Assist in providing support of the above products and services supported by a dedicated mentor within the team:

  • Through the initial assessment and management of tickets
  • Liaison with senior Technicians in Porsche Centres to understand and solve complex problems
  • Assist in investigating, validating and documenting repair methods utilising fleet of vehicles and bespoke special tools in state-of-the-art Head Office workshop environment
  • Support the team in the management of a fleet of circa 50 Porsche vehicles to include bookings for use, reporting, key management, and proactive maintenance such as MOT bookings, charging of batteries, repairs etc.
  • Join the team in learning about new product features and functions (vehicle and digital) and document their respective usage, configuration, and associated support processes where appropriate
  • Create, review, and publish documentation for provision of technical support and warranty information to Porsche Centres and internal departments relating to all product types and services where required
  • Support Porsche Centres in the use and configuration of vehicle system tester hardware and special bespoke Porsche tools and equipment
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of small training sessions for Porsche Cars GB colleagues relating to technical topics tailoring content to the target audience across different departments

The above list of Core Specific Responsibilities is not exhaustive. The intern is expected to carry out other duties as reasonably assigned from time to time, in line with their ability. The Company reserves the right to vary the role content, within reason, with consultation and agreement, in accordance with business requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Studying an Engineering (preferably automotive, mechanical or motorsport) related Undergraduate degree at University, seeking a placement for their 3rd year.
  • 3 A-Levels grades A-C (or equivalent)

Required IT-Skills:

  • Excellent level of PC literacy, including Microsoft Office
  • An interest and proficiency in the use of mobile devices and web-based services

Required language knowledge:

  • Highly competent in spoken and written English

Specialised knowledge/requirements:

  • Practical experience working with vehicles
  • Full UK driving license desirable
  • Understanding of motor vehicle fundamentals
  • Keen interest in the automotive industry, motor vehicles and associated new technologies
  • Willingness to work both in an office and workshop environment
  • Prioritising skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Those who pass the first stage will be offered a telephone interview on either 11th, 12th or 13th January. The final stage of the process will be an assessment centre on either 15th, 16th or 17th February, after which the successful candidate will be notified.
