Research & Development (Science Disciplines) - 12 Month Placement

Dowty Propellers, part of GE Aviation Systems based in Gloucestershire, is a leading supplier of advanced technology, composite-bladed propeller systems for a wide range of regional turboprop and military transport aircraft. As a world-leading manufacturer of integrated propeller systems, Dowty Propellers provides solutions for the propulsion systems of today and tomorrow. Key programs include the Lockheed Martin C-130J, the De-Haviland, Dash 8-400 and the Leonardo C-27J.

Its products are used in applications that range from regional airliners and military airlifters to marine hovercraft. Operated by a highly skilled workforce, Dowty Propellers’ in-house production expertise for composite blades includes application of resin transfer molding processes, which have been continuously evolved and perfected since 1976; and the use of braiding machines that rapidly and accurately apply the blades’ fibre outer layers.

Roles and Responsibilities

In the 12-month Research & Development (R&D) Placement, you will work on R&D projects with a multi-disciplinary team. This is a Research Scientist role where you'll gain invaluable skills within research, data analysis and presentation.

You will be guided by structured goals and objectives and will have responsibility to deliver on inspiring projects supported by your manager and team around you. We will support you throughout the year to ensure you make the best of your GE experience. Your manager will offer coaching and mentoring, and the Company will provide the opportunity to connect with other placement students across the UK.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Currently studying towards Physics, Chemistry or Maths related degree – penultimate/final year
  • Passionate about Science

Useful Information

  • All placements are available to penultimate/final year students and will start between June to August 2022, for a duration of 12 months.

  • The selection stages include online assessments, video interview and a final round interview.
