Data Science - 12 Month Placement

Roles and Responsibilities

At GE you will work within a team of highly skilled Data Scientists who develop and apply algorithms to extract value from data.  

We have two roles within Data Science:

Wales

At GE Aviation Wales you will work within the Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning Team to develop and apply algorithms to transform raw data into actionable insights. As the Data Analyst Intern you will possess analytical skills, a structured approach to problem solving, and statistical knowledge.

Our job is to work alongside GE Aviation Wales to develop, test and deploy analytics or software which provide significant insights and improvements to the business. We also develop custom in-house tools to help us deliver our projects efficiently and effectively. We support a wide range of internal customers and every project is different and gives the opportunity to learn something new. 
Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting in the collection, validation, and analysis of data to support business objectives. Primary focus will be labour hours, cost and TAT, but there is a requirement to support the business with all ad-hoc data requests
  • Use analytical methods to monitor trends and identify problems as they emerge
  • Assist in the development, test and deployment of analytical dashboards/tools/reports including the maintenance of existing capabilities
  • Providing support to the site data analyst, inventory analyst as well as supporting production planners with daily tasks, maintenance of plans and upkeep of SAP
  • Work with operations teams to understand the reality behind the data and provide commentary to support reporting packs.
  • Assisting in the preparation of clear and insightful presentations.

Eastleigh

Our Data Science projects include working with GE Commercial Engines to support all aspects of the engines business from in-service deployment, fleet monitoring and management to MRO, supply chain and financial operations. We work with airlines on projects ranging from managing aircraft system assets and fleet operations to enhancing passenger experience and satisfaction.
  
Our job is to work alongside Aviation customers to develop, test and deploy analytics or software which solve their problems or provide significant insights and improvements to their business. We also develop custom in-house tools to help us deliver our projects efficiently and effectively. We support a wide range of customers both internal and external to GE. Every project is different and gives the opportunity to learn something new. 

The Data Scientist role combines data and analytics with engineering or applications knowledge. We make extensive use of Machine Learning and Advanced Analytics including Computer Vision, Neural Networks, Multivariate Modelling, Anomaly Detection, Segmentation, Text Mining/NLP, Bayesian Reasoning, and work with wide-ranging and big data sets. The site has opportunities in Data Science and Software.  

In the 12-month Data Science placement, you will work directly within the GE Aviation Data Science team at our Chandlers Ford office. The team will provide technical support and guidance and arrange access to GE IT systems, appropriate software and data sets. High level technical direction will be provided by Senior Aviation staff.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Analytical scripting skills – Python and SQL preferred 
  • Experience of Machine Learning and advanced analytic techniques

  • All placements are available to penultimate/final year students and will start between June to August 2022, for a duration of 12 months.
