What is the C&D Investments Internship Scheme?

The scheme consists of an 8 week immersive dive into the world of our investment activities which includes insight sessions on the M&G Plc business units to provide a wide base of exposure within the company. Interns can also attend investment specific business info session to enhance their learning and ensure they have the opportunity to discuss more day to day activities and gain insight into the lives of our highly successful investment professionals. Each intern will be allocated a buddy from our graduate cohort who will provide informal support and promote integration with the M&G Plc family. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend networking and social events which are essential for promoting the work life balance encouraged at M&G Plc.

What will you do?

You will learn from our industry leading distribution professionals and will be encouraged to present your own views and ideas. Interns at M&G Plc make valuable contributions to the teams they work in and will be involved in a variety of tasks focused on sales, product development and strategy. The nature of the work will vary dependent on the business area and team that you are placed, but through collaboration with your assigned manager there is always opportunity to tailor the internship to things that you already enjoy while remaining open to new and exciting areas on offer at M&G Plc.

You will be placed in a team one of the following areas:

UK Wholesale sales: this team leads the sales process with our UK wholesale clients (comprising discretionary fund managers, fund of funds, banks, family offices, platforms and advisers). As appropriate, this will include some exposure to clients, and learning about how the sales process works.

UK Institutional sales: this team leads the sales process with our UK institutional clients (comprising pension funds, insurance companies and investment consultants). The work will involve working with the sales support team and gaining exposure to a wide range of investment capabilities and supporting client activity, learning how the sales process works.

Strategic Planning and Business Management: this team leads strategic planning projects across the asset management business (examples could include profitability analysis, business plan support, geographic expansion reviews). The placement will provide the opportunity to take ownership of key areas of analysis and developing solutions and proposals on projects, and will also involve some time in the Distribution Management office, gaining exposure to the business management activities of the distribution team.

Product Development: Product development leads the design and launch of new products for asset management. The placement will involve working on new initiatives as part of the team (either on the wholesale or private asset side depending on what initiatives are underway at the time) and also gaining an understanding of activities that also sit in the team such as product governance.

Investment Specialists: The Investment Specialists team bridges the gap between the investment team and the rest of the business. Working closely with fund management teams across asset classes, the role involves acting as a spokesperson for the investment team both externally and within M&G. The placement will involve ad hoc portfolio analysis for Fund Managers; coordinating investment team input to Marketing campaigns; delivering a short market update to sales teams; shadowing Investment Specialists in client meetings to learn about the fund range; attending meetings with brokers to hear market updates; market and competitor analysis tasks; learning how to use Bloomberg and fund data systems; helping design new materials to articulate the investment team message; drafting an article to be sent to the media on a topical area.

We are looking for innovators, creative thinkers and hands-on individuals from any subject matter background, with a desire to learn and who have a genuine interest in financial markets. Candidates who succeed with us are self-motivated, capable of building and maintaining relationships and work effectively as part of a team.

We champion our ideas and are, at the same time, comfortable to have these ideas challenged. Candidates must be able to formulate their own opinions by thinking both analytically and critically about problems.
