Duration: 6 weeks (July – August)

You’ll have either just completed your second year as an undergraduate or your third year moving onto a Masters degree.

We’re changing up the future

We’re on a mission to build the UK’s finest digital infrastructure and unleash Britain’s potential. We’re connecting communities, boosting businesses, and giving everyone access to superfast broadband. We’re also changing up the industry - we might be growing fast but we still behave like a start-up, with an open and inclusive environment where people can be themselves, speak up and make time for what matters.

What’s in it for you?

This is a fantastic opportunity to take the lead on and deliver a project within a specific division at CityFibre. You’ll get invaluable hands-on work experience, learning from our talented people whilst still adding real value to the business and helping us to transform communities across the UK.

We’re also offering a competitive salary which will be pro-rata across a six-week period.

What will you be doing?

Joining our busy architecture and engineering team, you’ll be a part of the rollout of a national DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing), with a mixture of hands-on design, test and insight into project management. Some of your key activities will include:

  • Supporting the activation of at least two DWDM nodes
  • Supporting the activation of an optical span
  • Writing up our ‘how to access the management system’ documentation for a non-technical audience
  • Supporting on the development of the ‘Introduction of DWDM for a non-technical audience’ presentation
  • Creating a documented report on the work you’ve undertaken, results and recommendations

You’ll also have the chance to visit our Engineering Centre in Milton Keynes where we are installing and configuring to meet the team and walk through all the key elements.

What will you bring to the role?

You’ll be on track for a 2:1 (or have received one if moving onto your Masters) in a degree subject that leverages analytics, for example physics, maths, biology, chemistry, or engineering. You’ll have an analytical mindset, good baseline maths skills and programming basics as well as the ability to work well independently.

Our unique culture

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer; we celebrate diversity, we believe everyone has a voice and we’re committed to creating an inclusive environment for all. Even though we come from different backgrounds and do different jobs, we’re united by The CityFibre Way - our unique code of behaviours that inspires how we think, act and work. We back each other, think smart and act fast, and we’re passionate about giving it our best to build a legacy together.
