Software Developer Placement

What you’ll do – you’ll get involved in virtually every stage of either developing new solutions or supporting and improving existing ones.

The majority of our interns will be based in IBM Hursley, near Winchester, the largest software lab in Europe. This location will give you exposure to a wide selection of projects and services and will enable you to gain a once in a lifetime experience.

We do have 1-2 roles in our other software labs including Manchester, Milton Keynes and Southbank, but please be aware 90% of the placement roles will be in IBM Hursley in Hampshire. Please ensure you are happy with this location prior to applying.

We will place you within a team where you will be working alongside developers, engineers who will be there to support and encourage and inspire you during your placement, During your 12 months we will encourage you to join in various projects (outside of your day job), hackathons, etc, this will help to build your network as well as your skills and experience during your internship.

Examples of some of roles we are looking to fill are

  • Software Developers
  • Release Engineers
  • Software Engineers
  • Front End Developers

What we look for:

  • Real passion for coding and programming
  • Some experience of the following languages whether self-taught or through work experience eg. Java, C/C++ Programming, Linux, zOS
  • You should be passionate about taking a year out to gain industry experience.
  • Be in your penultimate year of your chosen degree, be on target for a 2:1 in your degree and be authorised to work in the UK for the whole placement without sponsorship.

Whilst you don’t need a specific degree background to apply, you do need to be hardworking, with plenty of energy and real passion for the areas of our business that you’re applying for. Never fear, if you haven’t studied IT, we’re all about the person, not about their background.

University Placements are for a minimum of 1 year and form part of your degree - normally prior to the final year of study.
