Why You

As a Biochemistry Intern in the Research & Technology Development (RTD) department you will be working at the cutting-edge of new biochemistry-based technologies at Illumina. You will help perform the early work on developing our future sequencing platforms, working with new reagents and prototype instruments.

The role

You will perform early integration work, helping put together new technologies in proof-of-concept testing for future sequencing platforms.

You will initially shadow and then work in collaboration with other team members. You will perform sequencing runs on a number of sequencing platforms, including standard and experimental systems. You will also perform analytical testing, including fluorescence-based assays, when needed.

By the end of the internship, you will be expected to be working fairly independently, generate accurate reports, and give presentations to the team and broader department.

Preferred background, skills and experience

  • Undergraduate or graduate in biochemistry or chemistry (2:1 or above) preferred.
  • Basic programming and data analysis skills are desired, but not required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • An interest in science and new technologies.
