Bioinformatics – Research and Technology Development - UK Placement

Why Us

You will be part of the bioinformatics team within Illumina’s Research and Technology Development department.

This team focuses on the design and implementation of methods to improve the clinical utility of whole-genome sequencing.

Why You

Our 12-month program, focuses on meaningful project work, professional and personal development, in addition to providing networking opportunities.

Over the 12-month post, the successful intern candidate will work with large and diverse datasets to increase our understanding and assessment of difficult regions of the genome. Day-to-day activities for this position will include: data analysis and reporting; methods and algorithms development; presenting at internal meetings.

The role

This internship will provide an excellent opportunity to explore various aspects of Illumina’s sequencing technology, from early-stage platform development to its clinical impact.

Preferred background, skills and experience

  • Undergraduate or graduate student in bioinformatics, genomics, data science or related areas
  • Basic understanding of genetics or molecular biology
  • Comfortable with Python or similar computer languages
  • Previous classroom or practical experience with statistical or machine learning methods
  • Familiarity with next generation sequencing data analysis is advantageous
