Scientist Placement - CMC - Sandwich

This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside our industry leading scientists in our GMP accredited laboratories, at our Sandwich facilities (Kent). You will gain a wide range of practical laboratory skills which are supported by our in-house training.

In the CMC department, our Sandwich site in Kent specialises in Materials Sciences. Here we help support our clients, primarily from the Pharmaceutical Industry, to shape drug product formulations, defining safe and stable solid form, drug and excipients attributes, i.e. physical properties thermal properties, cross-interactions, that will allow to ensure drug product efficacy, manufacturability, and a suitable shelf life. This will include testing such as particle size, shape, surface area and energy and solid form characteristics. Additionally, we are also part of an impurity and contamination centre of excellence, and support investigation of foreign particulate matter and impurities using a combination of microscopic and spectroscopic techniques, such as FT-IR, mass spectrometry, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.

You will increase your knowledge of all things to do with a regulated laboratory and its techniques, from validation, sample analysis to investigations and reporting.

Job purpose

The placement will involve testing of solid state and physical properties of drugs using techniques such as microscopy, PXRD, IGC-SEA, DVS, gas adsorption, TGA, DSC, FTIR, laser diffraction, some of which used to support batch release, and regulatory packages. As such, you will be trained in all these techniques and general CMC and GMP procedures.

There will also be a chance to undertake research for Solid Form Screening using some of the abovementioned methodologies.

You will be trained to work independently and involve yourself in all parts of the work, both in the lab and out of it (for instance reporting, customer interaction and quality processes, such as laboratory investigations).

This placement will give you a wide range of experiences that will be invaluable for your future career.
