Sales and Origination Internship

What does Origination do?

The Origination team works with wholesale market counterparties across the value chain such as utilities, storage & transportation companies and large commodity consumers and producers. It leverages EDF Trading’s physical and contractual assets and capabilities in the physical and financial wholesale energy markets to develop more complex, structured transactions. The Origination team creates value in three areas:

  • Flow (or Sales)
  • Origination / Portfolio optimisation
  • Business development

The origination team specialises by product and region and works closely with the trading desks to optimise the positions of the liquid and non-liquid market horizon.

What are my responsibilities?

You will have the opportunity to work alongside the Origination team, experiencing first hand how the team operates and assisting with the achievements of both short and long term goals. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Working on a project for the duration of the internship that will have a lasting benefit for the team and prove to have a practical application. At the end of the internship, deliver a presentation on the project to the Executive Committee, members of the Origination team and your peers.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc tasks such as conducting research, preparing presentation slides and creating operational efficiencies.
  • Having direct responsibility for certain daily tasks.
  • Managing your own timings, priorities and workload.
  • Communicating effectively with members of the team as well as colleagues through the wider business where a crossover of work/information flow might occur,
  • Taking ownership of tool development within Microsoft Office applications, with the view to bring new skills and perspective to existing functions within the team.
  • Upholding a professional attitude and conveying the values of EDFT.

What do I need to qualify for this internship?

  • You will be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in a STEM, Economics, Environmental Economics or Finance related subject.
  • You will also be expected to have some knowledge or interest in the global energy markets
  • You will possess strong communication and analytical skills and be motivated by interacting with others.
