Quant Engineering Summer Internship

Join us for a unique 10-week paid internship that will be the envy of your fellow students and friends. We invite you to critically assess our processes and test your ideas in a rapidly evolving market. You will have responsibility for a real business project and at the end of your internship will deliver a presentation on your findings to a panel of executives. We are looking for people who are motivated to succeed in a fast-paced trading environment. You will be commercially astute, have strong analytical skills and a genuine interest in learning about energy commodities and the financial markets.

What does Quant Engineering do?

The Quantitative Engineering group which sits with the Front Office and is the centre of quantitative development capability for EDF Trading. The group provides front office analytical tools for both traders and structurers. We are responsible for the development and support of the company’s custom-built multi-commodity front-office applications and tools.

What are my responsibilities?

You will be given choice on your main business project, dependent on your strengths and interests. We have some exciting projects lined up, and this can be discussed when you join!

You will support the team in providing support and solutions to the traders and structurers; developing various apps and tools. This could include:

  • Working on the official P&L and risk valuation application as well as other custom-built multi-commodity front-office applications and tools
  • Providing technical support for all aspects of the trading processes as applicable to the Derivative system these may include aspects such as deal entry, valuation, position and P&L calculation.

You will also be expected to learn as much as possible about the business, and this will enable you to get involved with the development of sophisticated solutions for the various front office teams.

What do I need to qualify for this internship?

  • A passion for solving problems and interest in technology
  • Some knowledge or experience of C/C++ (this is our team’s primary development language)
  • Knowledge of the any of the following languages would also be beneficial: python, Java, C#, VBA
  • Studying towards a degree in a mathematical or computational based subject
