External Affairs Assistant Placement

What’s the job?

Your team is made up of a press office and public affairs team who deal with some of the biggest issues facing the UK economy. If you’re interested in media, current affairs and politics, this is the perfect internship to get you real-world, meaningful experience.

During your time with us, you will:

  • Support and assist press and public affairs colleagues in monitoring, research and stakeholder mapping.
  • Compile internal and external updates and newsletters including monitoring notes for an internal audience and weekly member newsletter
  • Coordinate responses to MP letters and inquiries on matters relating to insurance and long-term savings.
  • Complete administrative tasks associated with the successful running of a busy public affairs team and press office such as arranging member meetings, updating stakeholder maps and activity logs, and dealing with enquiries to the team.
  • Undertaking political research - producing biographies of parliamentarians, researching political interests of key parliamentarians.

What skills do I need?

You don’t need any prior work experience and we don’t ask for you to be studying a specific degree, however you may find your area of study lends itself to a particular placement year opportunity. This role suits someone with a keen interest and good basic knowledge current affairs and politics – even if you haven’t worked in this area before.

Other than being eligible to complete a placement year as part of your degree course starting in Summer 2021, we’re looking for people who are self-motivated, hard working and can communicate effectively with a range of people.
