Electrical Engineering Placement

Who you are:

You’re a logical thinker who’s adept at finding creative solutions to challenging problems. Resourceful and hardworking, you’re comfortable managing your own time to ensure you get the job done. Using your strong interpersonal skills, you’re able to build relationships with colleagues, suppliers and customers. You are flexible and don’t mind traveling across the country to seek out training and development opportunities.

What you'll be doing:

You’ll discover why Network Rail is the single biggest consumer of electricity and one of the biggest telecoms providers in Britain. By exploring renewable energy technologies and smart substation solutions, you’ll help us to make our electricity supplies greener and more resilient.

You’ll work with cutting-edge technology and industry experts to develop your knowledge of electrification, signalling and telecommunications. You’ll help us to improve safety and reduce journey times by coming up with innovative solutions to industry issues.

Why you should choose this placement?

A year long placement offers a unique opportunity to experience many parts of the business, and make a contribution from day one. The scheme is run by former graduates who act as coaches and mentors to our new recruits.

There are only a small number of year in industry placements available which means, if you’re successful, you’ll be highly visible across the function. If you do well you may be offered a position onto our graduate scheme. Many former year in industry students now hold senior positions within the company.

Entry requirements:

You must be in your penultimate year of university and on course to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 in an Institution of Engineering Technology (IET) accredited degree.
