Automotive, Mechanical & Tribology Engineering Placements

We have over 20 placement students each year at our Hazelwood site near Derby across business science and engineering roles, with the following opportunities in engineering in 2021| 22.

Automotive Test Engineering Placement

Working in the Mechanical Testing department in this role you will be part of a skilled, professional team made up of technicians, component raters, control specialists, test support and test engineers.

You will use your engineering knowledge, creativity and problem-solving skills to provide a high-quality testing service which is vital to the successful development of new fluid technologies. You will get involved in performing industry standard tests, as well as aiding the development of bespoke research tests on a variety of hardware from leading vehicle manufacturers. This will include; research, selection, and installation of data acquisition equipment into test vehicles as well as carrying out test data acquisition, processing, and analysis based on engineering principles. You’ll get to present your result back to internal business groups and write reports for your projects to be used for both internal and external purposes.

Tribology Engineering Placement

Tribology is the friction and wear between two working components, and at Lubrizol we create lubricants to reduce the negative impact of this. In this role your time will be split between a lab environment and the Mechanical Testing department where you’ll learn how to develop and perform tests on a variety of components and metallurgy from leading European vehicle manufacturers. You will also be designing, developing and performing tests on a range of wear and friction testing equipment to simulate engines and transmissions. This includes a combination of systems development, test software development, implementation of new tests, and performing analysis to present conclusions from these tests.

This role will require you to have and develop excellent communication and interpersonal skills when liaising with colleagues in your department, commercial areas and research groups in the US. You will be heading up your own projects as well as working within the team and across many other departments. The opportunities are plenty and for you to make the most of!
