Mechanical Engineering Industrial Placement

A Mechanical Engineering placement in one of our manufacturing sites will give you hands on practical application of the theory from university. Our sites produce a huge mix of different products, from tablets and inhalers to toothpaste and mouthwash.

During your placement with us, you’ll gain experience in areas such as:

  • The design and project management of engineering activities such as maintenance, equipment improvement (safety, quality and efficiency) as well as other engineering continuous improvement projects.
  • Developing skills for leading and managing groups of technicians or contractors to achieve the above.
  • Safety and quality risk assessments
  • Leading root cause analysis investigations
  • Developing a thorough understanding of the equipment, plant and processes used at the site.

Whichever role you go into you will be applying the skills you already have and developing new skills such as; team working, effective communication and time management.

You will work with and learn from an experienced team of multi-disciplined engineers. They will coach and mentor you during your year to help you achieve your potential.

Locations available:

Montrose

Montrose is a 45-acre primary manufacturing site, located by the sea. At this site, active pharmaceutical ingredients are converted into products such as tablets, creams and inhalers- used to treat a range of illnesses and diseases.

Barnard Castle

Working within the Operations or Project Engineering teams you will be focussing either on improving equipment reliability and production performance and / or delivering a range of new manufacturing, packaging & utilities equipment.

Worthing (Penicillin site)

In Worthing, you will be focussing on improvement activities (such as changeover time reduction, safety and efficiency improvements) and other projects as well as supporting operational elements within one of our Engineering departments on site. You will be given the opportunity to learn and develop in the area you are working and will be a key member of our dynamic Engineering teams.

Maidenhead

Working in toothpaste and mouthwash processing within Engineering. It will focus on improving reliability through design, process development and maintenance improvements. It will involve cross functional working, innovative approaches through to managing change. The role is key to drive quality, safety and cost improvements.

Ware

Ware is the largest GSK site in the UK with a thriving early talent community. The Ware site supplies oral solid dose (HIV and oncology products) and respiratory devices to over 140 countries, as well as to patients participating in clinical trials. You will be working in the pharmaceutical engineering team helping us to deliver safety, quality and efficiency improvements while developing your engineering knowledge and skills.
