Technology Internship

The scheme consists of an 8 week immersive dive into the technology world of our business including business lead insight sessions to provide a wide base of exposure within the company in both investment and technology. Each intern will be allocated a buddy from our graduate cohort who will provide informal support and promote integration with our M&G Plc family. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend networking and social events which are essential for promoting the work life balance encouraged.

What you will be doing

Our company is transforming, and we are working hard to build a technology foundation fit for a modern, digital, insight-led, responsive business. This means we can offer a wide range of exposure and growth opportunities, focused on your individual strengths and interests.

The work we do varies greatly, as do our skills and expertise. Here is a flavour of the teams you might be placed in:

Investment Management IT Team: We are organised in multi-disciplined agile teams aligned to our Investment capabilities, so that our teams build ownership and expertise in their area, and collaborate across disciplines to get to the right answers quicker. As part of your rotations, you could be paired with a senior developer to deliver a feature on an existing application, which might involve coding in Java, C# or JavaScript, working on the Microsoft Azure Cloud platform, maintaining and developing components such as functions, web apps or logic apps or optimising our DevOps process, such as writing automation scripts. Having recently implemented Aladdin (the largest programme we have ever delivered and one of the largest in the City) we are now working towards building an efficient, scalable technology platform for our future growth, including replacing our older technology and simplifying our architecture.

Technology COO: Technology COO is at the heart of M&G Technology, providing essential services to our technology and business colleagues. The team is diverse with a broad range of responsibilities, our Service Management Team ensures our technology service is stable and pro-actively manages any service incidents, whilst our Op Resilience Team Ensures our systems are robust and can continue to operate in the event of disruptive causes. Our Cloud Team provides modern platforms and services for our organisation using the latest technology, establishing a ‘centre of excellence’ and our Governance, Risk & Assurance Team ensure we remain within risk appetite and pro-actively manages our audit and control requirements, providing essential advice and oversight. The team also provides governance assurance, delivery and co-ordinates a number of substantial change activities, including the Tech 2022 Strategy.

What we’re looking for

We are thinkers, doers, programmers, collaborators, communicators and planners. We are agile, bold and resilient. We investigate, analyse and think critically.

We champion our ideas and are, at the same time, comfortable to have these ideas challenged. Some of us are technical experts, others of us have different experiences to offer. Our days are rarely the same.

We cast our net wide as we want to recruit a broad range of degree disciplines and from diverse backgrounds. If this sounds like you, and you are a penultimate year undergraduate headed for a 2:1, and curious to join a continuous learning (and re-learning) journey, get in touch to start your M&G Plc journey.

We are unable to provide sponsorship for internships. However, if you're in full-time education in the UK under the Tier 4 (General) category, current regulations may permit you to take on temporary employment during holiday periods or as part of your studies.

What you can expect

You will receive comprehensive training starting with a three-week introductory programme. Graduates on this scheme complete their induction by obtaining the Investment Management Certificate (IMC). If desired, you can work towards further qualifications such as becoming a certified Microsoft Azure specialist and many more.

Whilst transitioning through the Graduate Scheme you will continue your learning journey with the support of a Professional Development Manager and mentor along with a buddy from a previous cohort. You will receive regular feedback through rotation appraisals, allowing you to continue to develop and grow throughout the programme as well as have access to in-house training opportunities and a host of learning materials within our Workday learning portal.

We live by four behaviours at M&G plc and we ask all our employees to:

  • Inspire Others – Support and encourage each other, creating an environment where everyone can contribute and succeed
  • Embrace Others – Be open to change, willing to be challenged and able to adapt quickly and imaginatively to new ideas
  • Deliver Results – Focus on outcomes, set high standards and deliver with energy and determination
  • Keep it Simple – Cut through complexity and bureaucracy, be clear and decisive and never overcomplicate things

At M&G Plc Diversity and Inclusion is a strategic objective. We know that an inclusive environment makes us more accessible and ensures we attract, engage, promote and retain exceptional people. We welcome applications from all individuals regardless of age, gender/gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity/nationally, disability, or military service and welcome those who have taken career breaks. We will consider flexible working arrangements for any of our roles.

Start date: 21 June 2021

We assess applications as we receive them so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
