Technology Risk Summer Internship

Immerse yourself in first-class tech. Engage through trust. Activate our purpose.

Passionate about technology and supporting our clients with some of their biggest challenges? Bring your passion for problem solving and analysing information and help to ensure our clients IT systems are safe, secure and fit for purpose. Ask better questions to get better answers and create solutions that have the potential to transform how our clients do business and stay secure. This is your chance to use incredible technology for an incredible purpose.

What is Technology Risk at EY?

Technology is at the heart of most modern organisations. As well as opening a world of opportunities, technology exposes organisations to a variety of risks. Get a real feel for how we help our clients to identify and manage these risks to protect their stakeholders.

Our Technology Risk teams combine digital know-how with advanced tech to help clients understand and transform their businesses. Our high-performing teams are diverse, inclusive and borderless. Our experience helps clients grow, manage, protect and, when necessary, transform their businesses. Together, we shape entire industries by applying the right technological solutions to real world problems. Your diversity of thought will only strengthen our work within this incredibly varied business area.

What will you be doing?

Working in Technology Risk means you'll sit within our Consulting business area, working with our teams here and building relationships with a variety of clients to audit their IT systems and applications. You’ll also work alongside our Assurance colleagues who help clients protect their reputations by mitigating business and IT risks.

You can expect to:

  • Build your knowledge of EY, our business and our client’s businesses
  • Gain a broad understanding of the IT landscape of some of our biggest clients, including their adoption of cloud, use of Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Process Automation, advising them about any associated risks
  • Regularly work on client projects, attending client meetings to identify risks, test controls and provide an opinion on the security of the client’s IT environment
  • Analyse data, liaising with clients to deliver work to the highest standard that the client trusts
  • Assist in the project management of client engagements
  • Work closely with Assurance colleagues to identify and communicate risks affecting the financial audit
  • Get involved with industry research and client thought leadership
  • Support business development initiatives to help EY grow their client portfolio

You might also need to take on more work, and you should be prepared to do longer hours and spend a greater amount of time working away from home, particularly during busy season. And although normally you’d spend a high proportion of your time on client sites, this might be impacted by new working practices and guidelines put in place to protect our people and their wellbeing in the current climate.

You’ll have the opportunity to take part in web-based training and shadow senior colleagues. And, If everything works out well, you could even secure a job here after you graduate.

Do you have the eye for detail needed to work in Technology Risk? The patience to find your feet and explore your interests? The passion to take our purpose of building a better working world and run with it? Welcome to a place where you’re truly welcome – to share your voice, ideas, inspirations and beliefs. This is your chance to define who you want to be while building an experience you can be proud of.

Entry requirements

If you’re in your penultimate year at university, or if you’re already in your final year but will be doing a one-year Master’s degree, or taking a gap year, this internship is for you. We operate an open access policy, meaning we don’t screen out applications on your academic performance alone. You will, however, need to be working towards an Honours degree in any subject – some programmes will require a subject relevant to the business area – have a minimum of grade 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths, and three A-levels/ Five Highers (or equivalent) to be eligible to apply.

“I like the variety this job brings the most. I could be working in my normal office, in another EY office or out working from a client site. I could be working as part of a small team with only people from Technology Risk or I could be working as part of a large team involving people from other business areas.” – Kirsten, Technology Risk Consultant

Project You. It’s yours to build.

Please note, we’re phasing our opening of Student opportunities for 2021, so some specific roles listed above may not open until September. We recommend you check our website regularly for updates.
