Actuarial Summer Internship

Propose a better world. Reimagine client needs. Bring us into tomorrow.

Enjoy a summer earning while you learn how EY’s Actuarial teams help different types of insurance companies set and meet their business goals. You’ll not only get a feel for the business world with on-the-job experience, but also opportunities to meet influential experts and gain new skills that will shape the rest of your career. This is where long-term careers are built, developed and evolved. Where you can continuously learn, explore and bring better ideas to the table. Dive into a career you can truly own and define. Build a better working world, together.

What is Actuarial at EY?

Our fast-changing world can create lots of opportunity for insurance businesses, but it also creates new risks. We help our clients identify these risks by carrying out complex calculations, asking the right questions, setting priorities and creating action plans for success.

What will you be doing?

You’ll join either our Actuarial Non-Life Insurance or Actuarial Life Insurance teams and start contributing to real client projects alongside our teams and Partners. Before too long, you’ll be doing similar work to our graduates, which could include:

Non-Life Insurance

  • Analysing data to identify trends and insights, communicating with clients, writing reports and presenting your work
  • Working with UK and global (re)insurance companies on reserve reviews, transactions, portfolio transfers, actuarial modelling and more
  • Using the latest technology, modelling and analysis to understand clients’ businesses
  • Building proposals for new business pitches

Life Insurance

  • Analysing data to identify trends and insights, communicating with clients, writing reports and presenting your work
  • Developing dashboards, producing visualisations and performing analytics to support client needs
  • Contributing to actuarial audits, mergers and acquisitions, actuarial modelling and more
  • Communicating with people in our UK offices and across EMEIA

If everything works out well, you could even secure a job here after you graduate. A job where you’ll have plenty of room to grow and expand your experiences. A job where you can belong.

Entry requirements

If you’re in your penultimate year at university, or if you’re already in your final year but will be doing a one-year Master’s degree, or taking a gap year, this internship is for you. We operate an open access policy, meaning we don’t screen out applications on your academic performance alone. You will, however, need to be working towards an Honours degree in a numbers-based subject like Maths, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Physics or similar, have a minimum of grade 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths, and three A-levels, including an A in Maths (or Scottish Higher / Baccalaureate equivalent), to be eligible to apply.

“You can’t imagine how great an experience it is and how much you learn working with people within EY” Ross, Summer Intern, Actuarial

Project You. It’s yours to build.

Please note, we’re phasing our opening of Student opportunities for 2021, so some specific roles listed above may not open until September. We recommend you check our website regularly for updates.
