Equalities and Diversity Student Placement

Job Purpose

To support the Equalities and Diversity Manager to help shape the delivery of key strategies and priorities to ensure equality and diversity is embedded across the organisation from a service delivery and employer point of view.

The Bigger Picture

You will help deliver our corporate plan by:

  • Increasing the range of support for tenants;
  • Increasing engagement with the diverse communities of Doncaster;
  • Increasing tenant and community member involvement with our business;
  • Improving communications with tenants and residents;
  • Improve the extent to which our workforce reflects the Doncaster population;

The Day to Day

As part of your day to day duties and responsibilities you will:

  • Provide a range of support to the Equality and Diversity Manager to support teams across the organisation in relation to general day to day service delivery and service improvement and change projects related to the service area.
  • Undertake statistical and analytical work to support the delivery of service improvements.
  • Produce reports and briefing notes to support the delivery of service improvement across a range of business areas, with a specific focus on equalities and diversity.
  • To support the Equality and Diversity Officer to undertake research / benchmarking with other organisations on engaging with hard to reach groups, including promoting best practice from other sectors and organisations to help inform future strategies and actions;
  • To identify and work with hard to reach groups, both externally and within the organisation, to identify actions to improve their engagement with the organisation.
  • To support in the identification and promotion of strategies and actions to ensure mainstreaming of equality and diversity throughout the organisation.
  • To support the Equality and Diversity Manager to review the St Leger Homes Equalities and Diversity Strategy, policies and associated procedures and ensure that these are kept up to date in line with legislative changes and best practice.
  • To work alongside the Equality and Diversity Manager to implement a training programme that embeds good equality, diversity and inclusion practice across the organisation and deliver the training programme to employees as required.
  • Visit tenants in their homes and conduct office interviews as required.
  • Proactively engage with and support other colleagues across the organisation to ensure robust research and evidence with regard to equality and diversity to support their projects, e.g. estate profiling, homelessness, policy review and development.
  • Work from various sites across the business and with different teams to gain full experience of housing.
  • Work in a way that demonstrates St Leger Homes’ Values and Behaviours in practice.
  • Work flexibly in the interests of the service – this may include undertaking other duties provided that these are appropriate to the duties and responsibilities of the post.
  • The Safeguarding of children and adults is paramount to everything St Leger Homes delivers. All staff are expected to undergo training and then to identify and report all safeguarding concerns through the appropriate channels

  • Someone who is undertaking a relevant degree course and looking to gain experience and knowledge in the housing management environment or in equality and diversity legislation
