Engineering (Power Systems) Internship

Education, Licenses, Certifications

Studying towards a Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in an Engineering or STEM related discipline (including Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry).

Experience

Minimal relevant work experience desired such as internship, co-op, or other pertinent work experience.

Your impact will be seen in these and other ways:

  • Test Operations – understanding of Test Operations process flow model: Planning, Preparation, Execution, Analysis, Execution.
  • Engineering Standards - basic knowledge in Engineering Standards.
  • Technical Documentation - basic knowledge in Technical Documentation.
  • Structured Problem Solving Process - able to understand and apply structured problem solving processes to resolve issues.
  • Structured Design Processes – understand and be able to describe the purpose, content and steps in developing/ managing of an engineering design project
  • Applies basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices to assigned tasks in the development, analysis and release of products and subsystems through the product life cycle.
  • Assists in creating design specifications considering application, cost, weight, performance, product life, manufacture, assembly and service.
  • Verifies design using analysis and or functional testing, interpreting results, driving decisions and assessing risk.
  • Works with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional disciplines to resolve product issues.
  • Evaluates customer needs and aligns requirements with identified customer expectations.
  • Uses prescribed and innovative methods and works with limited guidance.
  • Participates as a team member and actively contributes towards team goals.
  • Carries out partially defined and moderately complex tasks.
  • Demonstrates good understanding and applies knowledge of an engineering discipline.
  • Applies engineering and scientific skills and continues to develop experience in creating engineering solutions.

  • Has experience in, and can demonstrate, relevant examples of Cummins core values e.g. voluntary work, community involvement activities, working with disadvantaged groups, charity related support, delivering superior results, teamwork, competencies and outside education experiences.
  • Has clear thought processes and can show a logical approach to tasks, challenges, hobbies etc.
  • Has sustained interest and achievement with in hobbies/interests/out of academia activities.
  • Additional language capabilities are not essential but could be of benefit for placements/future opportunities including within central Europe.

Training Provided

Starting with a comprehensive induction programme, throughout the placement you will be provided with training in sector specific technologies as well as general training such as presentation and communication skills, structured problem solving and Cummins practices and procedures.

Typical Engineering Roles

During your placement you will gain experience working in a selection of the following departments; Current Product Support Engineering, New Product Introduction, Structural & Thermal Computational Analysis, Service Engineering, Application Engineering, Design Engineering, Combustion Performance & Calibration Engineering, Test Technology & Operations, Electronic Hardware Integration, Design Integration, Applied Mechanics Engineering.
