Coated Abrasives Development Technician Placement

Overall Mission

The Atherstone laboratory is responsible for developing and commercialising abrasive products for our Automotive Aftermarket Division (AAD) and our Abrasives Systems Division (ASD). By creating innovative and cost-effective abrasive solutions for our customers, the successful candidate will help our teams deliver market leading and commercially successful new product introductions, whilst taking part in our Emerging Talent Training programme.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leadership of sub-projects within global product development project teams.
  • Problem solving and innovation working on a wide range of materials challenges.
  • Development of formulations and test methods.
  • Providing laboratory and product testing support for project teams.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Spreadsheet and word processing IT skills

Training and Development

The successful candidate will initially undergo a period of intense training in their role. Taking responsibility for their own sub project areas, the successful candidate will have plenty of scope to develop new technical and interpersonal skills. We operate in a highly collaborative environment so Industrial Placements can rely on plenty of support from colleagues to help them get started and this will continue throughout their time at 3M.

Requirements

  • Right to live and work in the UK
  • Predicted a minimum 2:1 degree in a degree in Chemistry or Material Science.
  • 120 UCAS points at A-Level or equivalent qualification
  • Valid UK driving licence preferred, but not essential
