Mental Health Placements Abroad

Our Bali Mental Health placement is a 4-week opportunity designed to give you a real insight into global mental health. From working at six different projects a week to participating in interactive workshops delivered by mental health professionals, you'll have the opportunity to expand your knowledge and skill set.

You'll spend your time on placement running twice-daily Activity Support sessions in a variety of settings. From psychiatric facilities to classrooms and initiatives for those with additional needs. You, and your teammates are expected to design, plan and deliver your own interactive sessions. But it isn't all work - your weekends are all yours to explore the stunning "Isle of the Gods."

This placement will give you a practical insight into working in the mental health field and is your chance to go beyond the classroom and put theory into practice at the same time as learning about, and working within, an exciting, vibrant culture.

About SLV.Global

SLV.Global provides psychology students and graduates the opportunity to gain valuable psychology work experience in Sri Lanka, India and Bali, Indonesia. Their focus is on global mental health and on bolstering the existing resources in the communities where they operate.

On SLV.Global’s Mental Health placements in Sri Lanka and Bali, Indonesia, you will work as an Activity Support Worker and also an all-round positive role model in the community. You will be working in schools, children’s development centres, psychiatric facilities and within the community. On all placements, you will have the opportunity to learn from local professionals to increase your knowledge and enhance your skill set whilst being immersed in an exciting new culture.

Program Highlights

  • Live with other volunteers in a homestay with a local family in a beautiful Balinese village.
  • Put your knowledge and experience to good use in a variety of projects
  • Explore the spectacular island of Bali on your weekends. Climb volcanoes, swim with manta rays or just stay horizontal on the beach.

All volunteers are required to undergo a series of in-country training sessions run by local NGOs and charity workers. These include; basic teaching English, working with children and vulnerable adults, cross-cultural skills and understanding.

Students and graduates will benefit most from this placement, as it comprises of teaching, working with children and those with specific needs and also spending time running sessions in a clinical environment. Participants work full time during the week, but have all weekends off to travel the beautiful stunning island.
