Software Engineer Placement
As an Intern Software Developer you will join one of our agile teams to develop our software. We have a strong focus on embedded software but our students can also be found working on our virtual ECU or within our Dev Ops team. We use a wide range of languages, including C, C#, C++, Java, Python to name a few. You will be writing and delivering software to meet the defined specifications under the direction of your team lead. We give you real work and you will be expected to have responsibility for your own deliverables, but always with the support of your team.
Qualifications
You should be studying for a degree in a relevant discipline e.g. Computer Science or Engineering, and have some of the following characteristics:
- Programming skills in one or more languages (e.g. C/C++, Python, Java)
- An understanding of object-oriented software
- Familiarity with embedded software development
- Good time management, communication and problem solving skills
- Creativity and innovative thinking

Please note we would like you to start in July or September 2020 for a 12 month internship.
By joining us for your placement year, you will genuinely make a great contribution to the business. You may want to further your career with us once you graduate, as so many of our previous intern students have done. In 2019 we hired 11 students for year-long placements, so when you join will also be part of your own internal student network as well as working alongside our teams.
We are always striving to create an innovative and collaborative working environment and by the the end of 2019 we will be fully moved into our brand new custom designed office in the centre of York (Hospital Fields Road), a short distance from the train station and adjacent to the river, with easy access by bike.
Before applying for this vacancy, you must inform your Faculty/School Placement Officer. If your Faculty/School does not have a Placement Officer, you must inform your Course Tutor. This is important because there may be the need for the employer to be verified by the University to ensure that, where applicable, the position can be credited to your degree.
