Member Relations Assistant Placements

The Member Relations team supports the Association of British Insurers (ABI) by offering important insight into its 250 members. You will be keeping abreast of member news and communicating what’s most important back to your ABI colleagues. A key part of your job will also be to keep our Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) up to date.

Your manager will be the Assistant Director, Head of Member Relations, Partnerships and Events and they’ll help you gain real insight into working in the corporate world. You’ll be in the unique position of communicating with everyone at the ABI – from the Director General to the Assistant population – and you’ll be their prime point of contact for all-things member related.

If you’re studying a business or social sciences related degree – or anything that requires you run research and analysis, this is a brilliant internship to get you real-world, corporate experience that will provide you with lots of great experience on your CV.

Please note this is a 12-month fixed term contract and is being offered as a sandwich placement starting in Summer 2020.

Your role:

During your time with us, you will:

  • Carrying out research and monitoring ongoing developments within ABI member companies and effectively communicating developments and information internally to ABI colleagues;
  • Working collaboratively with ABI colleagues, particularly in Events, Finance and Directorate Support to ensure accurate data is collated;
  • Contributing to the development of a new Associate Member strategy by undertaking high quality research and data analysis of opportunities in the insurance market, and the related business communities;
  • Engaging with broader stakeholders and members, supporting specific projects and providing support on various work relating to membership;
  • Supporting the Events Team with the efficient running of member events (c.50 per year!);
  • Helping maintain the ABI member information and insight through updating the member profiles;
  • Contributing to the maintenance of the customer relationship management (CRM) software and contributing to ideas and initiatives to help us make best use of it.
  • Helping with ad hoc research projects and working with ABI colleagues to deliver these.

We’re looking for:

It’s essential you’ve had some experience of producing research and analysis – either in your studies or at work – as you’ll help keep our member profiles up to date and accurate.

You’ll need to be inquisitive about the world around you. If you spot a problem, you’ll be the type of person that goes away and researches it and comes back with a few ideas on how to tackle the issue.

As you’ll be talking to the whole of the ABI and potentially taking care of members at events, a natural, confident communication style is a must.

Given we work with the UK insurance market, you’ll need to be curious about the industry and interested in building a career in a corporate environment.

The minimum requirements for the role are:

  • Demonstrable experience of researching and analysing businesses either in education or at work;
  • Experience of organising data using Excel
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Fluent written and spoken English;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels
  • Creative thinking with a curious, inquisitive nature;
  • Proactive, organised and self-motivated to manage workload and meet agreed deadlines;
  • An ability to work collaboratively and to contribute to the wider work of the ABI, a premium is placed on an open and friendly personality.

Throughout the interview and assessment process, we will be looking for you to demonstrate the ABI’s values; We are Brave; We take Ownership; We are Appreciative; We are Human and We are Curious

Where can this role take you?

With a collaborative environment, the fantastic exposure you have to people and leaders in the industry and the knowledge you’ll build on a range of regulatory and policy issues, the ABI is a great place to advance your career.

What training and benefits are offered?

On your first day you’ll be met by our HR team for a full company induction. You’ll then have inductions to get you up to speed with anything from Events to how our finances work, plus one to ones with relevant colleagues. Everyone goes on an introduction to insurance course and will receive plenty of on the job training. We host various Staff Learning Events throughout the year and you will be able to attend relevant ABI and industry events.

Additional training will be tailored to your own personal needs and aspirations and we have a range of courses as part of our Learning and Development offering.
