Clinical Research Placement

Our Clinical Research and Pharmacovigilance team push the boundaries of global healthcare through research and innovation. Through clinical trials and surveillance, we ensure the safety and efficacy of our existing and pipeline products to produce safe, effective, innovative medicine. Joining our dedicated and talented team for 12 months at our Kings Cross site as a placement student will help build a strong foundation for success in your future.

As part of the Clinical Research department, you will work closely with the clinical operations team, providing support to obtain regulatory and ethics approvals for our clinical research programs in the UK and Ireland and assisting with the financial aspects of new and ongoing clinical trials.

Throughout your twelve-month placement, you will be given the opportunity to gain a full insight into the policies and practices of a Clinical Research Department within a global company. Working in a professional and friendly environment, you will work across therapeutic areas and support the members of that team whilst developing your knowledge and practical skills in setting up and working on clinical trials. The placement is predominantly office based, but experiences will include occasional field visits with our study teams and training on clinical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on assigned project(s) under supervision
  • Learn about all phases of a clinical study in theory and in practice
  • Support the study team in their daily activities
  • Understand, develop and manage study documents relating to regulatory and ethics submissions
  • Generate study budgets and review payments

Key Capabilities/Skills

  • Strong communication skills are essential
  • Good organiser and administrator
  • Team player, learning from and helping others overcome obstacles
  • Confident with a willingness to get involved
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Education and Experience

  • Working towards a minimum of a 2:1 degree in Biomedical Sciences or Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related discipline
  • A levels in Biology and Chemistry, grade B or above
  • Entering your third or penultimate year of study, returning to your degree course at the end of the placement
