Ethical Hacking Placement

You want to change the world too, don’t you?

So what are you waiting for? Join our Global Product Security team! We’re looking for an Ethical Hacking Intern to join our Reading office!

Oracle Global Product Security & Ethical Hacking Team (EHT)

The Ethical Hacking Team is an independent group of security researchers within Oracle who perform in-depth technical assessments of on premise products and cloud services using leading edge tools and techniques.

The team reports its findings to the corporate security architect as well as the senior leadership of the affected lines of business and works with them in the vulnerability remediation process.

Over the year, the EHT has built a suite of pioneering security tools internally used for vulnerability triaging, identification and exploitation.

You will be working with other Ethical Hackers in the team and software engineers spread across Oracle worldwide. Your mission is to add new capabilities to the existing security tools.

Your Challenge

  • Implement scripts to detect security defects in product binaries and installation media. The scripts will run in a framework that allows them to be scaled on hundreds of products.
  • Facilitate the adoption of tools within the diverse Oracle development community by helping the creation of documentation, sales presentations, internal social media posts and other supporting material.
  • Shadow testing activities done by members of the Ethical Hacking Team to identify which techniques, methodologies or approaches can be automated.

What are we looking for?

  • Enrolled in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course in Computer Science or related field.
  • Interest in security is required. Basic knowledge of one or more the following security topics is preferred: cryptography, program. analysis, web application security, memory corruption bugs.
  • Full proficiency in one (or more) of the following languages: Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby or Java.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and ability to work on servers, using only the command line.
  • Excellent organizational, presentation, verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to achieve the given milestones and objectives with limited supervision.

What’s in it for you?

  • An extremely flexible working environment.
  • This role will enable you to see the complete lifecycle of vulnerabilities, from inception as part of an assessment to the response of the development team and eventual deployment of patches. By developing tools to automate the vulnerability discovery process you will be helping keep some of the world’s most sensitive data and systems protected.
  • You will gain a deep and detailed understanding of security challenges so that you will be able to codify them into reusable units of work.
  • EHT interacts with some of the most innovative areas of the company including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Netsuite, the Oracle RDBMS engineering and the Java teams. This role will allow you to see how security is approached in a global enterprise and how the most difficult challenges are addressed and solved.
  • By interacting with the rest of the team you can improve your knowledge in security testing and research.
