Laser Communication Technology Placement

Internship opportunity available within Airbus in Filton (Bristol). Join the laser communication team, where you will work on optical communications projects in a research environment, involving hands on experience with field trials with drone mounted systems, with potential to become the team’s pilot of a Matrice 600 hexacopter.

This is an excellent opportunity to experience the R&D side of business for those who enjoy a practical approach.

Task & accountabilities :

During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include

  • Calculation of laser link budgets
  • Mechanical design, CAD
  • Building of optical terminal prototypes
  • Analogue/digital electronics design and PCB layout design.

Our Internships are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • You should be from an electronics, mechanical engineering, optics, physics or computer science background and on track for at least a 2:1.
  • CAD/mechanical design
  • C++ programming
  • Electronics design
  • Optical communications
  • PCB design
