Data, Pricing and Quant Engineering Intern

What does Data, Pricing and Quant Engineering do?

The European Pricing and Structuring Desk sits with the origination team providing on demand valuation, structuring and analytics services to Front Office (Origination and Trading teams).

Wider purpose includes support in:

  • Business development (e.g. analysis in support of competitive market penetration and business expansion)
  • Providing commercial synergy between origination, trading, risk, credit and finance with the aim to evaluate full economics and risks of a new deal and obtain necessary approvals to close it
  • Providing independent opinion on deals to the executive management
  • Pricing methods research, prototyping new models, contributing to development and enhancements of EDFT ETRM valuation and risk engine
  • Pricing and Structuring are not only a counterpart to Origination and Trading teams, we also collaborate closely with quantitative analytics team and quantitative development

Although we apply quantitative skills in our work the angle remains very commercial – the target is to close profitable deals that increase EDFT’s operating profit.

What are my responsibilities?

You will be given some choice on your main business project, dependent on your strengths and interests. We have some exciting projects lined up, and this can be discussed when you join!

You will also be expected to learn as much as possible about the business, and this will enable you to get involved with pricing of live deals that come up during your time here.

You will get a chance to experience working in a front office environment and gain understanding of real-world financial engineering vs the academic theory. You will also learn about European energy market structure, common products, assets and trends

What do I need to qualify for this internship?

  • A demonstrated and proactive interest in pricing / derivatives / market dynamics / finance
  • Basic+ / Moderate level Excel
  • VBA or python (preferred, not-essential)
  • Commercial awareness and quick to grasp new concepts
  • Enthusiastic
  • Studying for degree in a numerate subject
