As a placement in Engineering, you’ll spend an invaluable year working right at the heart of our business – with real responsibilities, and the chance to work on real projects. You’ll gain a unique insight into our exciting and dynamic industry, with exposure to many other functional areas and senior colleagues, as well as the opportunity to enhance your professional skills through an extensive and tailored programme of learning and development. You’ll have lots of fun during your time with us, and we’ll ensure you get the support you need every step of the way.

What you’ll be doing

Our Aviation Engineering and Maintenance team is a European-wide function, responsible for the maintenance and safety of all aircraft to ensure they keep flying safely and on time. The team schedule aircraft back into our main base in Luton at least once every 24 Months for their ‘MOT’ as well as regular checks at the bases before releasing for flight.

During your Engineering placement, you’ll be a core part of our Aviation Engineering and Maintenance team, based in our heavy maintenance facility – Hangar 61 in Luton. Although you won’t be working the aircraft ‘hands on’ you’ll get involved with undertaking all aspects of supporting aircraft maintenance for a number of European airlines within TUI Group, gaining unparalleled experience by working with cutting-edge technologies across a number of teams in many different capacities. But it doesn’t stop there.

As well as maintenance itself, you’ll manage proposed maintenance requirements that are received in the form of a work package, re-arranging these requirements into the most efficient order for production. You’ll plan and chair input meetings, ready for the aircraft to arrive in the hangar, as well as controlling the paperwork for the aircraft, ensuring it’s been correctly completed and compiled. You’ll also deal with any technical queries, ensuring they go to the correct team, and that they’re answered and closed.

You’ll support with undertaking paperwork audits, estimating and pricing the maintenance required, and ensure everything is captured and cross-charged to the various operators of the aircraft within the TUI Group. Acting as a customer liaison with the operators, you’ll deal with both commercial and technical queries, as well as communicating on the progress of the maintenance. Throughout your placement, there will also be opportunities to lead on continuous improvement projects.

What we’re looking for

Our placements are suitable for those who are on a sandwich degree course, looking for a 12-month placement to commence in August 2020, and due to graduate by September 2022, as you’ll complete the industrial placement in your penultimate year of university.

You’ll be on track for a 2:1 or above in an engineering-related degree, and have a minimum of 120 UCAS points under the 2017 tariff system (extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis).

We're looking for agile-minded, innovative thinkers, who are keen to learn and take on new challenges. Those who have a flair for collaborating with others, a natural drive for results, and are able to think strategically about the business. Adaptable individuals with a talent for thinking analytically, and a focus on providing unrivalled service to our customers.

You’ll also have a passion for Engineering, as well an interest in the travel industry.

Important: for this programme, you’ll also need to be eligible for gaining and retaining an airside pass. This includes being able to provide two forms of ID and references for the past five years. You’ll also need to apply for an up-to-date DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) and undertake GSAT (General Security Awareness Training).
