What you’ll be doing

Our Aviation Planning Finance team support the Aviation Planning department who are responsible for fleet and capacity management, airport revenue’s and costs and external sources of aircraft revenue. In addition, they support the Aviation Planning team by providing insight and analysis into the profitability of flown routes and calculation of the airline destination seat rates which are charged to tour operators.

During your placement, you’ll be working as a Finance Analyst in two areas of our Aviation Planning Finance team: Airports and Pricing.

Airports
This team reports on airport related costs, such as landing charges, passenger charges, government taxes, aircraft parking and passenger lounge costs with total cost base of c.£350m. They’re also responsible for monitoring and collecting airport rebates and providing financial analysis to the Aviation Planning Commercial team to aid in airport contract negotiations.

Here, you’ll get involved with the accounting and reporting (month-end accounting and forecast) process, including preparing and uploading journals into our finance system (SAP), reconciling the forecast to the month end results, running general ledger reports, updating reporting templates and cost models, reconciling balance sheets and updating cash flow reports working alongside Airline Finance teams. You’ll also support the Commercial team with the evaluation of new deals for airport contracts, and in particular take responsibility for passenger lounge costs, acting as finance support for the Commercial Executive who works in the Aviation Planning Commercial team.

Pricing
This team creates the contract seat rates that are charged to external and internal tour operators, as well as creating the end-to-end airline route profitability.

Here, you’ll get involved with the creation of a new ad hoc pricing model, with a view to eventually become the main point of contact for ad hoc seat rates. You’ll also support the tour operator seat rate pricing and route profitability process by populating templates for finance and business colleagues, as well as testing and writing documentation for the new Airline pricing and route profitability process.
