Product Engineering Placement

Stafford is part of Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division. Within our state-of-the-art facilities we are able to design engines tailored to meet the precise requirements of our customers, for use anywhere in the world from the Arctic Circle to the Deserts of Chile, providing power solutions exactly when and where required. Our engines are reliable in a crisis keeping hospitals online, sporting fixtures playing or powering the grid when power stations fail.

What experiences can we offer you?

Each year we recruit highly motivated and capable placement students to take on an important role within our Engineering team. You will get the opportunity to make a real contribution and get the satisfaction of seeing a project from start to finish, within the fast moving Global Engine Development department. During your year out from study, you will have the opportunity to get involved in the following activities:

  • Design and Engine Development
  • Performance and Emissions Development
  • Noise and Vibration Measurement and Analysis
  • Engine Test, including Component Test and Engine Validation
  • Project Management

You will receive the support and coaching required for you to manage and complete challenging projects, while developing your technical capability and business understanding.

We also operate a conditional offers process. This means that post university, our highest performing placement students can be fast tracked to our IMechE approved Graduate Development scheme, without having to apply through the normal channels or attend assessment centres.

What are we looking for?

Applicants should be studying for a degree in Automotive/Aeronautical/Mechanical/Motorsport Engineering, Electronics/Electrical Engineering or any one of the physical sciences and be on track to achieve a 2:2.
