Biochemistry and Biophysics - 12-week Summer Internship

Are you seeking a company that will offer you rewarding, challenging work and a chance to make a difference? Then you should consider Illumina's iAspire Internship Program. Our mission? To help improve human health by unlocking the power of the genome

Each summer, over 75 undergrad, Masters and PhD students embrace these internship roles. No matter your background you are able to take up a position at Illumina; you have the option of positions from the highly technical to the more corporate functions: Finance, Bioinformatics, Engineering, Research & Development, Marketing, and Software, among others. Our 12-week program, iAspire, focuses on meaningful project work, professional and personal development, in addition to providing networking opportunities.

Roles and Responsibilities

During your stay within the Sequencing biochemistry team, the post holder will perform biophysical and kinetic experiments aimed at understanding efficiency and accuracy of Illumina's Sequencing technology.

You will initially shadow, then work in collaboration with other team members, on a number of different instruments and assay formats to generate mechanistic information about clustering and SBS.

By the end of the internship, you will be expected to be working fairly independently, generate accurate reports, and give presentations to the Team.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 2nd year or penultimate year of a BSc in Biochemistry or Biophysics degree
  • Completed modules in basic biochemistry, and enzymology or biophysics.
  • Basic programming and data analysis skills are desired, but not required.
  • Good communication skills
  • Keen interest in understanding the mechanistic aspects of biochemical processes.

The selection Process:

Once your application has been submitted, our dedicated recruitment team will perform an initial review, and if successful we will invite you to complete a digital video interview. The culmination of our selection process is for the finalists to attend an assessment day at our offices at Granta Park, south Cambridge.
Reasonable travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed to applicants invited to an assessment day.

Applications will be accepted until 1st December 2019 with the assessment centres planned for the last two weeks of January 2020. Internships are due to start July 2020

Please note eligibility to work in the UK is a requirement to participate in the iAspire program.
