Community Relations Placement (12 months)

To stay on top, Airbus recognises the importance of supporting high-achieving and talented undergraduates. We do this through offering challenging internship opportunities during which your skills and potential are fully maximised.

Our internships give a unique insight into potential career paths within Airbus. They are designed so that you can put your theoretical knowledge into practice and gain crucial industry experience. The skills and knowledge you gain will improve your chances of a future role within the Airbus and should benefit your future studies.

Here at Airbus in the UK’s Communication Department we don’t like to boast but we do have a pretty impressive record when it comes to giving interns memories of a lifetime – how many can say they went to work and ended up being an extra in a film with Ed Sheeran*? OK, we do like to boast but we are pretty proud of the experience we provide students who spend a year or so working with us. No two days are the same. Monday you could be at the local zoo launching a new attraction sponsored by Airbus. Friday (which is a half working day by the way) you could be designing a campaign to help employees do their bit for the environment.

We have two vacancies for each role, one each in Filton near Bristol and Broughton near Chester. Community Relations Intern and Internal Communications Intern. On the Community Relations side, there is a focus on raising Airbus’ profile in the local community through engagement schemes which involve local people. And for Internal Communications, it’s all about working on the communication for our employees in our Filton and Broughton sites. Whichever role you may end up in, your ideas, curiosity, energy and enthusiasm are essential and you will quickly become an integral part of our team of professionals working in internal and external communications and community engagement. As we started with a boast, it’s only right we end on the same note. In return for giving us your passion, determination and commitment you will enjoy flexible working hours, a little travel, some excellent employee benefits (loads of discounts!) and access to some top-notch events such as the Farnborough International Airshow.

Tasks:

Of course there are the day-to-day tasks to cover:

  • Writing news stories
  • Creating videos
  • Designing campaigns
  • Staying on top of the local news and a range of other public relations-related work.

Skills:

Our Internships are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • An interest in aerospace and some knowledge of the fantastic products Airbus makes.
  • But really the most important thing is what makes you tick.
  • You must have a passion for people
  • Be self-motivated
  • Not afraid to pick up the phone and talk to stakeholders of all levels.
  • Ideally you will be studying for a degree that has given you the basics in communication, marketing, corporate social responsibility, advertising, journalism, media relations…the list goes on, the theme is public relations.

That’s not to say we aren’t interested in students who are not studying in these fields. All we ask is that you have a genuine desire to work at Airbus and are not just applying because any place will do. If you have a genuine interest in what we do and a hunger to develop skills in communication-related disciplines, we’d love to hear from you, regardless of what you’re studying. If you think you could be tomorrow’s next PR big hitter, get your application submitted sooner rather than later because once we have seen enough impressive CVs and cover letters, we reserve the right to close the application window to select a winning team.

Please ensure that a covering letter detailing motivations and suitability for this position is included in your application.

Contact:

Please let us know if you need us to make any adjustments. Examples of this may include (but is not exclusive to) accessible facilities; additional time for written exercises; auxiliary aids; room layout; dietary requirements etc. If you wish to discuss this further please contact via email interns@airbus.com. Any information disclosed will be treated in the strictest confidence.

*The Ed thing really did happen. Check out the film ‘Yesterday’ and the aircraft scene.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth. Airbus is committed to achieving workforce diversity and creating an inclusive working environment. We welcome all applications irrespective of social and cultural background, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religious belief.

Please note, we love your interest in working for Airbus but we do ask that you make only one application. We encourage you to take time to decide which of our exciting opportunities is right for you and then submit an application that best represents you, your skills and experience in connection with the role you have selected.

One application: Make It Possible, Make It Happen, Make It ...Count!
