Automotive | Mechanical Tribology Engineering
Tribology is an area of engineering which you may not have come across before, tribology is the friction and wear between two working components. At Lubrizol we create lubricants to reduce the negative impact of this; therefore, your time will be split between a lab environment and the Mechanical Testing department.
During your time with us you will learn how to develop and perform tests on a variety of components and metallurgy from leading European vehicle manufacturers. You will also be designing, developing and performing tests on a variety of wear and friction testing equipment to simulate engines and transmissions. This includes a combination of systems development, test software development, implementation of new tests, and performing analysis to present conclusions from these tests.
This role will require you to have and develop excellent communication and interpersonal skills when liaising with colleagues in your department, commercial areas and research groups in the US. You will be heading up your own projects as well as working within the team and across many other departments. The opportunities are plenty and for you to make the most of!
At Lubrizol, we have a wide range of placements available across a number of different disciplines. At our Hazelwood site, for Science and Chemistry students, we also offer lab-based roles within Chemical Synthesis, Applied and Strategic Research and Blend Test Services.
In addition to this, we offer an office based Regulatory Chemical Compliance role, which assists Lubrizol’s commitment to the health, safety and environmental aspects of our chemistries.
Our Manchester site, Blackley, home to our Advanced Materials research and development centre for excellence offers two lab based roles within our Performance Coatings Group. These are Research Chemist and Applications Chemist.

Requirements
To apply, you must be studying towards an Automotive or Mechanical related degree and achieving a 2:1 or above.
