Communications & Government Affairs Industrial Placements

A placement in Communications and Government Affairs (CGA) could entail a placement in the Communications team, the Government Affairs and Policy team or the Global Health team.

The Communications Team gives GSK a voice. We engage, inspire and inform our employees. Externally, we look after our global brand image and reputation. How do we do this? By coming up with and delivering clear and consistent messages to patients, consumers and doctors, shareholders, investors, partners, the media and the general public.

Our placements offer you the opportunity to work with our various teams to support the communications requirements of the business both internally and/or externally. Whatever your role, you’ll have the opportunity to work with and learn from communications colleagues across the business and all over the world.

A communications placement is a great chance to apply the skills you have learned at university in a ‘live’ role and learn new ones. The work will bring you into contact with people across the business, external organisations and the media, so you’ll be constantly developing your interpersonal skills. You’ll also build your organisational and problem-solving abilities while also building a network of contacts across the business.

You might also get to do a placement in the Government Affairs and Policy team, also part of CGA. The Government Affairs and Policy team supports all parts of GSK by delivering high quality government affairs and creating impactful public policies. We identify political and environmental trends and develop strategies to maximise advantage for the business. We support Corporate Executive Team members, Senior leaders and Local Operating Companies engaging with governments.

This placement provides the opportunity to an industrial placement student to learn how we support the businesses by understanding the needs of our Governmental and other stakeholders and provide the opportunity to get an understanding of the external environment that GSK operates in as well as the political decision-making processes.

Finally, you might get to experience being a part of the Global Health team. As a business, we aim to have a high impact on global health by using our scientific knowledge to reduce disease burden, especially on the world’s poorest populations. Our focus is on infectious diseases in children and adolescents in the developing world with particular attention on TB, malaria and HIV/AIDs. The placement in Global Health will allow you to be part of incredible projects, from creating and implementing strategies to making our medicines more accessible in less developed countries to assisting with product donations during disease outbreak or natural disaster. On one day of your placement you may be meeting with various partners to discuss current and future projects such as our healthcare worker programmes and another day you might be drafting a proposal about a potential new project your team have created to improve access to a lifesaving medicine.
