Finance & Purchasing Placement

Finance isn’t a back office function at Toyota. You’ll soon discover that a key part of your role is to see things for yourself. You’ll spend time on the shop floor, understanding how we work. You’ll learn to see problems from other people’s perspectives. You’ll understand how you can improve the way we manage costs and add real value to the business.

Your time here

Over your 11 month placement, you will be involved in a variety of projects and understand how you can improve the way a business like Toyota manages its costs, and how finance can add value to the production process. Our Finance IP students can be surprised by the amount of involvement we give them. You certainly won’t be sat at a desk producing spreadsheets. You’ll get to spend time with our group leaders and engineers and soon be a rather large influencer in the team.

Our Accounting and Finance team spans cost management, general ledger, accounts payable and received, purchasing, investment and physical inventory. You’ll have responsibility in one or more of these areas as well as seeing how finance can make an impact across the business, for example, learning how we balance environmental impact with economic effectiveness.

Previous IP Projects Include:

  • Developing breakthrough initiatives to reduce costs per vehicle as part of a dynamic cross-function team
  • Kaizen of the physical inventory process, including method for stock management variation

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum 2:1, relevant accounts/finance degree

About Toyota Manufacturing

Toyota's decision to establish a manufacturing operation in Europe was announced in 1989 and Toyota Manufacturing UK was established in December that year.

There are two manufacturing plants in the UK, representing a total investment of £2.75 billion and employing approximately 3,000 members (including Agency). The vehicle manufacturing plant is located at Burnaston in Derbyshire and the engine manufacturing plant is located at Deeside in North Wales.

At the heart of our operation is the Japanese concept of Kaizen, the philosophy that everything can always be improved. You can see it in our world-leading processes, our innovative products and, of course, in our people's growth.

That's why we highly value graduates and undergraduates who thrive on analysing problems from different angles to develop solutions for a better way. And that's why they never stand still. Whether you want to travel the world or become an expert in your field, one thing is certain: you'll never stop growing at Toyota.

So if you want a future designed to last, go see for yourself (or 'genchi genbutsu' as we say at Toyota)..
