Assurance Industrial Placement

Get a head start on your career while working with some of the world’s most influential organisations and governments, helping them keep and publish reliable financial accounts. As well as developing on-the-job experience in the business world, you’ll be part of an organisation that’s shaping the future of business, work with a team of experts on real client projects and take home a salary for it, too.

What is Assurance at EY?

Our Assurance teams analyse the data behind our clients’ businesses. As external auditors, they help companies and governments publish accurate financial accounts that their clients and industry regulators can rely on.

What will you be doing?

From day one you’ll be working on real client projects, learning about their businesses and processes and developing your people and relationship building skills. Over the course of the year you’ll also pick up these tasks with greater confidence:

  • Testing clients’ business controls to ensure they’re working as they should be
  • Using our technology platforms to analyse data which forms the basis for clients’ financial statements
  • Perform detailed testing to confirm these financial statements are true and fairly stated
  • Working with clients on site
  • Taking on an increased workload during busy season

You may also be required to take on more work, and you should be amenable to longer hours and spending a greater amount of time working away from home, particularly during busy season. You can expect to spend a high proportion of your time on client site too.

You’ll also begin studying for your chartered accountancy qualifications with ICAEW in England, or ICAS in Scotland, and will be offered even more training and development options from EY’s in-house experts. If everything works out well, you could even secure a job here after you graduate where you’ll continue to develop and complete your professional qualifications.

Qualifications you will gain

Partial completion of chartered accountancy qualifications with ICAEW in England or ICAS in Scotland

Entry requirements

If you’re studying for an honours degree (in any subject) that includes a one-year placement and you’re in your penultimate year of university, this placement is for you. You’ll also need to have obtained a minimum of Level 2 GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths as well as three A-levels, 5 Highers or equivalent.
