Risk Summer Analyst

Risks come in all shapes and sizes and are ever evolving. All of which makes Risk an exciting place to build a career. What’s more, thanks to the increasing complexities and breadth of activity within Risk, you’ll gain a variety of experience within the Risk function and expand your industry knowledge. You’ll join one of our exciting areas within Risk, such as Market Risk, Credit Risk or Conduct Risk among others. This gives you a chance to develop a good understanding of a specific area and its importance to our Risk function.

What to expect

You’ll join one of our exciting areas within Risk, with these areas varying between technical and governance roles across the different types of risk (excluding conduct, reputation and legal risks). This gives you a chance to develop a good understanding of a specific area and its importance to our Risk function. You’ll take on your own projects and responsibilities and work closely with people across all levels of the bank. At the same time, you’ll learn about the broader Risk function and the wider organisation through a number of different initiatives, learning and networking sessions. Your work will make a real difference to your team and prepare you for life as a full-time Risk Analyst.

At Barclays, risks are identified and managed in the business through the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF). The ERMF specifies the 8 Principal Risks of the Group and the approach to managing them. These are listed below:

• Credit Risk
• Market Risk
• Treasury & Capital Risk
• Model Risk
• Operational Risk
• Conduct Risk
• Reputation Risk
• Legal Risk

How you’ll develop

The exposure you get will build your understanding of how we operate and where you’d most like to work. From day one, you’ll start gaining the know-how you need to get your internship off to a flying start and you’ll always be able to count on us for support. The valuable advice that you’ll receive will strengthen your confidence and help you sharpen your skills. Performance coaching, social events and the chance to take part in projects outside of Risk will also help you expand your network and develop. Perform well and at the end of the Summer Internship, there is the opportunity to gain a place as a full-time Risk Analyst.
