Summer Internship

We’re looking for two people to join us for 6 week paid internships in Summer 2019.

No prior work experience or knowledge of insurance is necessary – all you need is an interest in working with us and a hunger to learn more about our industry.

As well as gaining valuable experience in the working world and getting involved in the work of our Advocacy, Policy and Regulation teams, you’ll be running your own project so you have something tangible to take from your time here and you can have a real impact on our organisation.

For us, it’s the people that make our organisation a great place to work. By joining us, you’ll be joining a culture where 99% of colleagues feel the ABI care about their health and wellbeing, 98% think individual differences are respected and 99% agree colleagues in their team respect each other.

Your role

As well as getting involved with day to day business activities and wider projects, you will have one or more of your own projects to work on. You’ll be supported by a project sponsor and given the resources you’ll need. The exact projects will be allocated when you start but may include one or more of the following:

  • Looking at how pensions are portrayed to young savers.
  • Analysing and redesigning content for the ABI website.
  • Examining the changing nature of financial behaviour.
  • Investigating the pensions gender gap
  • Working on one of our lobbying registers
  • Gaining clarity on how different organisations manage lasting powers of attorney

With us, you’ll have the chance to make a difference to real-world social and financial issues and we’ll encourage you to present your findings to us at the end of your time here.

We’re looking for:

There’s absolutely no minimum work or education requirements to intern with us. What’s important is your attitude to your work, your fellow colleagues and how curious you are about the world around you.

We’ll be looking at how you demonstrate our values, so its worth reading up on them here before applying.

Broadly speaking, we’ll be looking for:

  • An enthusiastic and positive attitude with an interest in learning about the insurance industry.
  • Someone who takes a proactive approach to work with the ability to challenge and ask questions to reach positive outcomes
  • Curiosity and willingness to bring ideas and build knowledge.
  • A good level of self-awareness and treating others as individuals and with respect.
  • Someone who takes accountability and ownership for delivering high quality work.

What can you expect from the recruitment process?

In your application, we’ll ask you to answer three questions about yourself. They’re designed so anyone can answer them, regardless of background and experience. We’ll then score your answers and we do this using a set of criteria to help us asses your potential. Even if you’re not successful, you’ll receive a link with some feedback showing how you did.

Those with the highest scores will be invited along to an assessment day. This is designed so we can get to know you better and so you can meet a whole range of people you might work with, meaning you can check we’re a good fit for you. The day will involve group work, an interview and a short presentation. You’ll receive a thorough briefing in advance, so you know exactly what to expect.
