Process Safety Engineer Placement

We are looking to recruit high potential Process Safety Engineers (Industrial Placement) to be based at our Head Office Terminal in Westerleigh (near Bristol) or our Top Tier COMAH facility in Milford Haven commencing during Quarter 2/early Quarter 3 2019. The role would involve some travelling to all terminals and business locations in the UK. This role would ideally suit a self-motivated individual with a keen interest in Health and Safety studying for a degree in Process or Chemical Process Engineering. This role requires excellent interpersonal and communications skills, an assertive approach as you will be working closely with Management, Operational and Maintenance Teams and external bodies. The ability to use initiative and plan ahead, having the ability to write and develop systems and procedures is also a key requirement of this role along with excellent PC skills and an extensive knowledge of excel. There is also potential to gain hands on exposure to the commercial aspects of the business. The applicant must hold a full UK driving licence and possess the ability to work effectively with a ‘team’ and be self-motivated and driven to work on own.

The role will be reporting to the UK HSE Manager and is responsible for supporting HSE related matters to all PUMA UK operations. The role will be required to support the management of the Terminals Health & Safety Systems, Emergency Response and coordinate HSE (COMAH) requirements ensuring compliance with legal standards. The role also includes the following responsibilities;

  • Continually promote, support and improve HSEC awareness throughout the Terminals by means of Training, Bulletins, Lessons to be Learnt and Toolbox Talks to ensure that safety issues are considered important and as part of their day to day activities.
  • Provide HSEC advice, guidance and support to all staff and contractors working within the Terminals. Informing Management of any identified or emerging safety related issues that may affect Terminal Operation and provide recommendations to ensure continued compliance.
  • Involvement in risk assessment reviews to ensure that all control measures are suitable and sufficient.
  • Collate, process, analyse, store and issue all safety performance data and HSE reporting requirements.
  • Ensure that actions in relation to the Terminal COMAH Safety Reports are completed, as required.
  • Completion of risk assessments at the Terminals as required
  • Development of operating procedures through assessment of current task in the field and Human Factors analysis review.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety related Policies, Procedures, Key Performance Indictors and objectives.
  • Support the development and review of Emergency Response Policies and Procedures to adequately mitigate the major accident scenarios identified at Terminals. Support communications with external Emergency Response bodies (i.e. local authorities, Fire brigade) to ensure that an adequate Offsite plan is produced. Support the development and provision of training and regular exercises to maintain the effectiveness of Emergency Response Procedures and to ensure the competence of personnel involved in these procedures.
  • Involvement in investigating incidents that have had safety consequences. Ensuring that root causes and corrective actions are effectively identified and completed in a timely manner.
  • Represent Puma at local/external and UK trade association working groups.
  • Introduction to Functional Safety and participation in internal Functional Safety group
