Product Compliance Placement

In the UK, we offer 12-months placement - starting 2nd September 2019 - opportunities to undergraduate students looking to gain practical experience within a vibrant and innovative industrial setting. As part of the scheme, you will be partnered with a mentor, have regular reviews with your Line Manager and work on projects that impact the business.

Training and development is provided throughout the placement with successful applicants having multiple opportunities to develop transferable skills in addition to gaining ‘hands on’ experience in a technical discipline.

As part of the scheme students get a chance to cultivate their independent thinking and problem solving skills in addition to working in and contributing to a team. Cross functional/department working and participation in other research activities is also encouraged, where appropriate. Previous work experience in a practical ‘hands-on’ role would be useful but not essential.

Context / Environment

The drivers of growth, value and competitive advantage in the tobacco industry are changing due to increased regulation. The major challenge for BAT will be the ability to offer a portfolio of differentiated product experiences through innovations that enable BAT to compete successfully under any future market scenario. The Product Compliance Team specifically addresses this issue by providing product regulatory interpretations and validation, regulatory compliance assessments, and notifications and compliance reporting, as part of the technical compliance evaluation package which is relied upon by BAT for successful innovations.

This intern role will take responsibility for supporting the process improvement of each section of Central Product Compliance (Regulatory Intelligence, Regulatory Impact, Compliance Assessment and Notification/Reporting). This will involve a variety of interactions through an equal deployment in each section of Central Product Compliance. The intern’s interactions will be used to evaluate department performance and facilitate continual improvement in the delivery of product technical compliance work packages.

The intern will also be fundamental in the 2019/2020 roll-out of a product lifecycle management system within Central and Regional Product Compliance.
