Pastoral Care Lead

Top up your salary, share your skills and make a difference this summer! Flexible paid roles throughout June-September with NCS The Challenge.

Join The Challenge, the UK’s largest provider of NCS, this summer as a Pastoral Care Lead and oversee behaviour management and inclusion on our summer youth social action programme.

NCS (National Citizen Service) is a government-backed initiative with a mission to equip 15-17 year olds with the confidence, skills and support they need to make a real difference in their local communities.

The Pastoral Care Lead works throughout the two residential phases of the programme, providing floating support to Team Mentors, helping them to develop their behaviour management strategies, and working closely with select young people with identified behavioural and/or emotional needs.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Work with the Youth Programme Leader to manage challenging behaviour and appropriately report incidents.
  • Promote the inclusion and engagement of all young people, working closely with young people with behavioural, emotional and/or physical needs in particular.

Person specification

An ideal Pastoral Care Lead candidate would have:

  • Extensive experience of working with young people, including those who exhibit challenging behaviour & learning difficulties
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapting working style to different groups and teams
  • Ability to motivate groups of people in stressful environments
  • Ability to understand and follow safeguarding and Health & Safety guidelines, alongside other organisational policies and procedures
  • Experience of working in a residential environment

This fully residential role is perfect for someone with significant experience of working with young people, knowledge of supporting people with additional needs, and experience of managing challenging behaviour.
