Data Science Placement

Role Summary

GE Aviation Digital combines unrivalled strength in the Aviation domain with digital capability to provide business changing outcomes. We are seeking highly motivated individuals to contribute to our digital future. At GE you will work within a team of highly skilled Data Scientists who develop and apply algorithms to extract value from data.

Our Data Science projects include working with GE Commercial Engines to support all aspects of the engines business from in-service deployment, fleet monitoring and management to MRO, supply chain and financial operations. We work with airlines on projects ranging from managing aircraft system assets and fleet operations to enhancing passenger experience and satisfaction.

A typical Data Science project starts with a problem statement and dataset and our job is to work alongside our customers to develop, test and deploy analytics which solve their problems or provide significant insights and improvements to their business. We also develop custom in-house analytic tools which help us deliver our projects efficiently and effectively. Every project is different and gives the opportunity to learn something new.

The Data Scientist role combines data and analytics with engineering or applications knowledge. We make extensive use of Machine Learning and Advanced Analytics including Computer Vision, Neural Networks, Multivariate Modelling, Anomaly Detection, Segmentation, Text Mining/NLP, Bayesian Reasoning, and work with wide-ranging and big data sets.

The successful candidates will work directly within the GE Aviation Data Science team at our Chandlers Ford office. The team will provide technical support and guidance and arrange access to GE IT systems, appropriate software and data sets. High level technical direction will be provided by Senior Aviation staff.

Interns will also benefit from the experience of being a GE employee, from innovation challenges, employee engagement activities and company awards to working alongside GE’s global and culturally diverse teams.

Useful Information

The internship will start between June to August 2019 for a duration of 12 months. The location will be Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh SO53 4YG.

The closing date for applications is 4th February 2019. However, we review all applications on a rolling basis and therefore advise you to apply as soon as possible. The vacancy will close once requirements have been filled.

The selection stages include online assessments, video interview and a final on-site interview. Should your skills or experience be suitable for other internship opportunities, we will also consider you for these without you needing to submit a further application.

Please only submit one application. If you submit multiple applications, the recruitment team will progress you for the role you are most suitable for. When submitting your application, please use an email address that allows us to contact you throughout the year.

We offer internships across all GE businesses and our Internship Recruitment Team will provide further information on available industries and locations during the hiring process.
