Legal Placement

We have an exciting opportunity within the Legal Team for an Intern to join us from Summer 2019 for up to 12 months, to provide support to the wider BRE Group. You will gain excellent hands on legal, commercial and compliance experience, and understand more about the interaction between the inhouse lawyer and the business.

This role will provide a broad range of corporate law experience, and will ideally suit a someone looking for their third year university industrial placement.

As a legal team, our role is to provide timely legal and strategic advice to assist BRE Group achieve its commercial and corporate objectives. Our task is to identify, and then advise on and manage legal and practical risks, advise on matters of compliance and good governance to assist colleagues progress commercial projects in domestic, European and international markets. By horizon scanning, we aim to keep the business informed of laws and regulations which have potential impact..

To give you a flavour of the instructions that you could receive, current legal team engagement extends to the following projects:

  • BREXIT: identifying legal issues and risks, providing assistance and support in our preparations for BREXIT (whether hard or soft or no deal);
  • GDPR: providing assistance and support to colleagues across the business;
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiation of legal documentation;
  • Advising and assisting colleagues across the business on a broad range of commercial matters;
  • Providing advice across a range of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters;
  • Assisting in the handling and management of legal disputes, and advising on legal/commercial risk;
  • Reviewing and maintaining legal templates and policy documents reflecting best practice;
  • Managing and monitoring external legal spend; and,
  • Understanding and advising on conflicts of interest and compliance issues.
  • You will also be required to undertake a range of tasks to support the legal team’s objectives.

To apply this role, it is likely that you will be in your second year of a law degree and looking for the industrial placement for your third year (starting summer 2019). You’ll need to demonstrate:

  • Theoretical legal knowledge, gained through your Law degree so far;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Team player and good at building relationships;
  • Independent and self-motivated;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills demonstrating commercial awareness;
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • Ethical, fair, and balanced; and,
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
