Research Assistant Placement

The London based facility will combine our leading drug discovery capabilities and world-class R&D expertise with the best of the regions talent and has a mission of turning breakthrough science into meaningful and impactful medicines. The science at the site will focus on cellular aging and mechanisms of homeostasis and resilience, so that MSD can explore and make progress in the battle against some of the most challenging diseases facing our aging population.

This is an opportunity to join our new and talented team at the Discovery Centre laboratories located in the London Business Innovation Centre near King’s Cross London as a placement student and help build a strong foundation for success in your future.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to setting up a world leading cell biology group for MSD in the UK utilizing cutting edge technologies.
  • Carry out experiments to analyze the effects of disease-associated proteins on neuronal biochemistry and signalling.
  • Conduct in vitro studies to support the development of early potential drug candidates.
  • Assist in developing new assays, models, protocols and methods.
  • Oral and written communication of data in a clear and concise manner
  • Monitor and review published work to guide internal research.

  • Good understanding of molecular and cellular biology
  • Practical laboratory experience
  • Ability to communicate accurately both verbally and in writing
  • Strong numerical and analytical ability
  • Team player, learning from and helping others overcome challenges
  • Proactive person who can work indepenently
  • Has a can do attitude, anticipates problems and proposes solutions
  • Listens and adapts to improve

Education and Experience

  • On course for a minimum 2:1 degree
  • Penultimate year of study, returning to your degree course at the end of the placement
